Gemma started dance classes at the age of 3 with the dream of growing up to be a dancer. Throughout her childhood she took classes in various dance styles such as ballet, tap, and jazz, where she regularly took part in shows and examinations. During her schooling she obtained both a GCSE and A level in dance and made the decision that the only career she wanted was to dance. Upon leaving College Gemma went on to University and graduated with a BA Honors in Dance Practice and Performance. Her degree focused on many varying dance styles, along with how to teach dance. Upon leaving university Gemma has continued to develop her skills by successfully becoming a member of the IDTA with her teaching qualifications, to date she has her associate freestyle, salsa diploma and has successfully passed 3 out of 5 modules of her associate Latin with top marks. In addition to this Gemma also has completed her Zumba training and has been a ZIN member for 2 years.
Gemma has over 10 years of teaching experience which stems back to her years at college where she assisted adult dance classes and helped out with the younger ballet classes at the school she attended. She furthered her teaching skills through her degree and upon leaving university secured a job working as a part time dance teacher for children aged from 3 – 16. She then went on to teach and assist adult ballroom and latin dance classes, and eventually managed to make the leap to becoming a full time dance teacher by taking on roles teaching ballet, musical theatre and street dance at private dance schools. She has now been with Urban Fusion for over a year offering street dance sessions in schools and loves every minute of it.
